It's time for a national renewable energy standard! Clean, domestic energy is essential for Ohio’s economic and environmental future!
A Renewable Energy Standard (RES) is a regulation (either state or federal) that requires utilities such as power companies to increased their production of energy from clean, modern, renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, biomass, and geothermal.
Currently, 28 states have a mandatory RES and another five states have renewable energy goals that aren't mandatory. Ohio has one of the most significant state renewable energy standards in the country; requiring that 12.5% of our energy come from renewable sources by the year 2025.
After several opportunities over the years to pass federal legislation for a RES, Congress now has another chance.
Both the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate have proposed bills that include a national RES that would require 25 percent of the nation's electricity to come from renewable sources by 2025.
