Diesel - Clean Diesel Program

Recommendations to state and local governments include:

  • Retrofit all school and public transit buses and government owned and contracted diesel vehicles with pollution control equipment, switch to ultra low sulfur diesel fuel, and replace worn-out vehicles with cleaner diesel engines or alternative fuel engines.
  • Pass anti-idling ordinances on vehicles waiting to load or unload passengers or freight.
  • Implement a statewide diesel vehicle inspection and maintenance program.

The OEC will work with local government officials and boards to establish diesel cleanup programs and advocate on behalf of Ohioans for cleaner air. In addition, the OEC is working at the national level to advocate for federal legislation to provide funding for state and municipal fleets to clean up.
